Axle Swap or no?
Got an 84 K10 and my rear axle broke. The ring, pinion, carrier, everything. I have been on the lookout for a replacement, but it has been tough. The truck has 3.08 gears, and has a 305 with a SM465 4 speed.
Instead of finding another 3.08 rear to swap in, which I can probably find during the spring, I found an interesting truck for sale. a 79 K30, with just a frame, cab, tranny t-case and axles. Guy will deliver it for $500 total. The truck was a town truck way back when. Could that work? I would like stronger axles, but would also like a deeper gear ratio. What do you all think?

Re: Axle Swap or no?
K30 spring perch is narrower than yours. Two options: One: cut perches off, move out, re-weld them. Two: knock rivets out of both truck's rear leaf spring brackets, bolt the K30 rear, leaves, and brackets onto your truck. If donor truck is same wheelbase as yours, you should be able to use it's drivelines, otherwise you will need conversion ujoints.
Front axle bolts in. You're getting a K30 rolling frame for $500? Delivered? BUY IT! Around here that Dana 60 front can still fetch $750-$1,000 alone.

Re: Axle Swap or no?
Stick everything on the 1 ton frame and you will have a much more robust truck! That's a steal of a deal!!!!

Re: Axle Swap or no?
I agree. Don't swap the axle swap the truck. The K30 is going to have a lower gear ratio, what engine did it have? If it was a big block or a detroit it will most likely have 4.10s or something close to that.
