Moog 6454 HD springs for 1/2 ton drop, works great.

I've done this on a few trucks now, and it works great. Real world results. I cut one coil from new C20 springs for about 2" of drop in a 1/2 ton truck and an awesome sportier ride. When you cut the first coil (on the top) you bring the load rating down to a point where they work great for lowered street trucks. I am not debating the validity of "drop" products but I've been disappointed before with drop springs. I am not talking about heating springs and I don't advocate cutting more than one coil for numerous reasons such as load rating and alignment issues.

The key is MOOG 6454 springs. They start at 13.61" free height, have a load rating of 3841 lbs, and a spring rate of 1060 lbs. There are shorter C20 and C10 big block springs available, but they start a whole inch shorter. Here are the specs.

You cut the top ?



That cuts the little coil off. How well do they locate like that ? I'd figured they'd bang around up there without being centered on the upper pocket.

I'm intrigued because I'm unhappy with the cut coils I'm running on my stepside right now. They are the heavy duty half ton coils with one loop cut off the bottom. They didn't sit the truck down as low as I've experienced with non heavy duty coils in the past.

Sorry, meant the bottom...but yes since they start at 13.61" free, cutting one coil puts them just right.
