454 bbc swap

Anyone know of mounts to use or anything I should know about for a putting a 454bbc in my 66? I know I need to change out my drive line and rear axle comin down the line soon maybe a dually rear?

But if there is anything I should know about the swap (such as a rumour I heard that I would have to cut the fire wall out for it. Please let me know before I invest the money in the budget rebuild?

Also got my eye on maybe an allsion 270 that was hooked up to a 454 in a bread truck....Go big or go home?

I used the mounts out of an 84 Chevrolet Suburban 3/4 ton. Had to knock the firewall back a bit to have enough clearance.

By the way it's hooked up to a 400 tranny and i had to find a drive shaft and cut it down to the right length. Got rid of the carrier bearing.

how exactly did you go about knocking the fire wall back? cutting and re welding?

To be honest literally beat it back with a hammer at first. Lol. then went back in after I pulled the engine to do a crossmember swap and cut and then rewelded. I've seen some guys move the motormounts forward and avoid all of that but I can't seem to recall who it was.

Mine went in without firewall clearance issues, but, I also have short valve covers on it.

We'll see how mine sits next Saturday. Been waiting awhile to start the conversion. All parts rady and weather bearing...it'll be a go.

sadly I'll have to keep this project to weekends as I work 50 hours a week and I still need to find a place to do it that won't fight me every step of the way on how I want to do it! gr.

No problem....actually working on two big block swaps. Other 63 is a short fleet and will be getting a 1st gen 348 installed. Stay tuned to the build threads for updates on the conversions and let me know if I can help any.

I just set mine on my frame today to look at it. It's frame only but I'll be moving mine forward to the other bolt holes. Worse case scenario I'll have to drill a bolt hole in my Zk member. Which I have to switch out first anyways to convert to 5 lug.
