what do you do about brittle door panels?
do you just replace them? could they be fixed? would repaintng them do any good? could you recover them with leather or vinly?

Once they go brittle its over.
You can paint them for awhile, and I have seen it done. Or buy new ones. I do not know if they can be covered, but a shop should be able to do something. |

I've glued thin carpet to sun destroyed door panels.

I covered mine in fabric u find at wally world. One piece per panel. Happy with how it feels but deffinetly learned as i had to cut and glue the top n around the handrest so it looks crappy
 but otherwise great!

I like that panel. Not for my truck but would be awesome in a 4x4. I might paint them and see how they look and then try to cover them with material if I don't like the paint.

I am currently redoing all the interior panels in my 78 crew cab. I am using SEM products. I was scared to take my old panels off. They are turning out really good

Spray-on bedliner from Duplicolor. Durable and gives it a nice texture while filling in the scuffs and divets.

that camo one looks real nice... a buddy of mine used body putty to fill in the cracks and re spray them with SEM

I would imagine that a binks glue gun and some keyston industrial glue was involved or needed if you want that vinyl to adhere to the panel for any significant length of time. Also the more pliable leatherette and a heat gun will be needed of you will get lots of small wrinkles.b

Start by disassembling and cleaning similar to prep work to re dye plastics.

I started at the top, using spray vinyl top adhesive. Didn't do the whole panel, just a section at a time so as to make it easier to adjust as needed. First panel took three tries using new vinyl and nasty cleanup of adhesive in between tries.

Trying to find a place to work the excess material into a place that is hidden, such as the opening at top where the handles are and trim covers will hide it is the key. The transition from arm rest hump to map packet space was the hardest to get right, and heat does help but I have a great respect for guys that make the vinyl flow and look natural after they are done.

Connor Sweet has this down to an art, and after doing mine myself I chose to send some spares to him because of his quality.
