Need a fuel gauge to use with my fuel cell 90 ohm
I just bough a fuel cell from summit racing 65 Chevy c10. I'm going to relocate it to the frame and sell the one behind the seat in the cab. The fuel cell came with the a 90 ohm sending unit which won't work with the fuel gauge in my truck.I called summit they said they don't make a sending unit for that tank that fits my stock gauge that I have to buy a new fuel gauge. Ok here is my question can someone tell me what size fuel gauge I need that will fit in the stock place or post me a link.it has to fit in the hole where the old one was and fit a 90 ohm sending unit thank you.basically I need a fuel gauge I don't think mine works anyways. Just need a 90 ohm that will fit the stock location of the old gaugei hsve a 350 vortec 350 horse

Re: Need a fuel gauge to use with my fuel cell 90 ohm
Be just about as easy to switch the sending unit to one that is compatible with your OEM gauge. Most of the time a fuel gauge not working in these trucks is because of a bad sender, the wire is unplugged at the fuse panel, or broken where it runs along the floor under the scuff plate.
I bought a Equus brand sender at O'Rielly's for about $30 and it works fine with my original gauge. |

Re: Need a fuel gauge to use with my fuel cell 90 ohm
I haven't confirmed this but my understanding is '66 fuel gauge is a 0-90 ohm unit where '65 and earlier are 0-30 ohm. You might check some of the aftermarket vendors (LMC, Truck Shop, etc.) and see if there is a original type replacement that has the right ohm rating.

So unless someone is making a custom gauge that I'm not aware of, I don't think there are any fuel gauges that will be a direct fit into a 64 - 66 Chevy truck cluster and work with a 0 - 90Ω sender. Last edited by ray_mcavoy; 04-20-2014 at 07:51 PM. |

I know Livorsi sales sending units that either fit your tank or they can build one. Livorsi mainly deals in marine applications but worth checking into. Just my $.02

Cant a guy change the ohm rating of a sending unit with a diode or resistor or something???

I do not think there are any 0-90 ohm OEM style gauges that are going to fit directly into your original gauge panel. You will likely need to simply look at the aftermarket offerings and see if one can be retrofitted into the gauge panel. Unless the depth of that fuel cell will accomodate an off the shelf 0-30 ohm swing arm sender.

OH, and there is no way to wire in additional resistors to "convert" the 0/90 to a 0/30 ohm sender. Using circuit theory, resistors can be wired to work at ONE and ONE ONLY level; but no way to effect a dynamically functioning system. Lastly, some marine suppliers sell senders that use NO FLOAT. They work via a capacitive system that senses a purely vertical level that the fuel rises to inside a "tube" mounted vertically in ANY tank--you trim the tube to match tank depth. Sam |

Re: Need a fuel gauge to use with my fuel cell 90 ohm
That universal 0-30 ohm sender is probably the easiest solution, assuming that the 5 hole bolt pattern on the sender in the fuel cell is the same as the typical 5 bolt sender.
