Should I paint my bumper/grill?
I was just browsing and saw what supercharged did to his truck. Looks great. Wondering if I should do the same.
I like the original/patina look, but at the same time the bumper and grill are kind of distracting. My 4 year old keeps asking me when we're going to paint it. I just put the wagon wheels on last weekend. They are a temporary fix till I can get the ralleys off my K5, which I plan on painting white as well. It needs a good bath. Some of the red is actually Oklahoma that came along for the ride. The rear bumper is chrome, and fairly new and nice. I cleaned it up last night, and plan on doing a little something to the side trim as well. |

Re: Should I paint my bumper/grill?
Nice fresh coat of white on the bumper and grill. Chrome would be a nice addition but expensive. Small details are what make the look, so don't overlook bolts and such.

Re: Should I paint my bumper/grill?
Clean it with CLR and a 0000 steel wool. It'll take the rust stains off but preserve the paint.

Re: Should I paint my bumper/grill?
Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go ahead and paint it. 64chevtruck, if you were closer I would take you up on that. Hate to think what shipping would be.
My goal someday is to take it back to original colors, Fawn with Ivory top. Chrome bumpers, grill painted body color with white surround and white ralley wheels. Currently running 235/75/15, but want to go 255/70/15 and 2" drop in the front. |

Re: Should I paint my bumper/grill?
I'd go with fresh paint. I did mine with Rustoleum gloss white. If it ever needs touching up, repairs are super cheap and easy.

Re: Should I paint my bumper/grill?
The main reason I repainted my grille was that it had a large crease in it that I had to beat-out and other smaller dents that looked really bad. And since I am too cheap to buy a new or better grille - I had to reworked it myself.
So once that was repaired I decided to go ahead and repaint the grille, front of the truck and the bumper. But its all just rattle can paint. Otherwise I am not sure I would have gone to all that trouble. I agree with some of the others a little Comet and elbow grease and most of that rust will probably come off. But if you are going to clear coat it anyway you might as well make look like you want.

Re: Should I paint my bumper/grill?
Well, I washed the truck up a little, and pulled the rear fender back out. Now the bumper just looks bad. I am going to paint it and the grill as soon as I get a chance. Might even do the inserts in the side trim.
