402 smog motor

question. I was offered a 402 that was originally a smog motor out of a 72 burb. smog is all gone but what I am wondering is if there is any internal difference from a non smog motor

Lower compression ratio maybe? or maybe a smaller camshaft but I think not on both really it was the pump and the AIR injectors in the manifolds and the EGR stuff. Heck the General couldn't even make up its own mind what the thing was for a while, was it a 396 was it a 402, was it a 400? You had to have a score card and a dial indicator to tell, but yes it was all those to different people. I know there was the .030 thing after what model year 70, I was 3 so gimme a break on that one but I do love the little '02s I had one in a Chevelle that was bored to 413 and it was a screamer!! If your afraid of the smogger motor just think about a simple cam change and wake up the little rat. Jim
