I have an unopened NOS tailgate band with a date of 1977 that has chrome plastic letters. GM must have made the switch really early. The later run bands were plastic silver not chrome. An aftermarket band won't last a year in the New Mexico sun - for $300 this is an excellent bargain IMO.

I have had original take off tailgates both Chevrolet and GMC that had chrome letters. Later, replacement inventory changed to plastic!

Good fact to know. All the ones I have had were metal letters. But I wondered if the real late produced factory pieces might have changed to plastic.
