Windshield gasket preferences

I'm looking for feedback on windshield gasket preferences, I've heard positive things about Steele and Precision. Comments and thoughts please, thanks.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

Replaced mine a couple of years ago. First one was from my windshield guy that I believe he got from LMC. It was a bad fit. I then got one from Classic Parts and it worked fine.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

Have had very good fit with Precision, on several different vehicles. Noticed lately that they are available thru JC Whitney now.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

Just placed an order with one of our site vendors, Laidbackcreations, for a Precision gasket. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

Just gonna add, that the windshield install is not easy. While the rear window goes in like cake, the windshield is much trickier. I did literally everything on my truck, but left the windshield to a pro (who does old cars)

He broke the first windshield (a risk on ANY windshield that has sustained ANY chips). It had looked very good, so we wanted to reuse it. One of the main causes of fracture on a decent "looking" windshield is chips on the gasket edges. Its VERY common for folks to use a large carpet knife and other tools to cut/peel the gasket to make removal easy, but this can cause scratches and chips on the sealed edges of the glass. When the piece goes to be reinstalled, it can crack.

I'd suggest HEAVY lubrication, a second set of hands (and ideally a third), and good suction cups. This is where getting new-made glass is really a blessing. The fully sealed edges, better lamination (and warranty) are kinda nice.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

AmericanClassic.com also has Precision if you ask for it.

I remember reading that on the 64-66s, the top of the glass has to go in first.

I need to do my gasket. Might give it a shot on the old glass, and call in a pro for a new one if I break it.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

Well, I'm back to square one, temporarily. Placed my order but received a PM stating the supplier has none in stock with no idea when there will be availability. Props to Sarah at Laidbackcreations for promptly letting me know, that's customer service. I'm going to call Steele and American Classic in the morning, wish me luck.

. when i did mine on my 65 i put the bottom in first. it did hit the top of the cab just a little, but once you get it past that point . the rest went in fairly easy.

Re: Windshield gasket preferences

Not sure where Willis, TX is located but maybe this will work for you. The last couple car shows/swap meets I went to around Dallas there was a booth set up for Deep Ellum Auto Glass here in Dallas. They quoted me $85 for glass, $85 labor, $40 for seal, regular price not a show only price. So $210 out the door. Maybe you want to call them. Just throwing it out as an option. Phone number is 214-712-0000.

It's funny you point this out, that is who I bought my windshield from at the Pate Swap meet this weekend. I'd love to have them install it but I'm Just north of Houston, 3 1/2 hours south. **Update** I just called them to check on a seal and was referred to South West Classics.
