Is this bed a 47-53??

Trying to figure out what year this bed is. I'm pretty sure it's a 47-53 Chevy, but I could be wrong.

I would have to say yes. It appears to be sitting on the back half of the frame it left the factory on with the AD rear bumper and you can see the lever and cable for the park/emergency brake below the frame in front of the fender. It has the correct fender too.

Trailer that you can tow home?

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Thanks. I'm not familiar with these years. And yes it was converted into a trailer. I'll be going and getting it hopefully in a few days. Guy told me it was a 60-66 bed, but I knew that was wrong. I know what those years look like. Just wanted to make sure before I make a 4 hour trip for it.

'54 into the Sixties have the bed side tops flat (parallel to the ground). Your beautiful yellow lab is smart enough to tell you that....well, MINE is! Lol.

Thanks for the additional info. I didn't know that. Glad you do, cause now I know. As for the beautiful yellow lab, it's not mine and neither is the bed yet. I just wanted to make sure that the bed was the year I'm looking for.

Re: Is this bed a 47-53??

Dan mentioned the one thing I forgot and that is that the sides of the top of the bed should have that slant rather than being flat on top. 54 also has a style line in the side of the box that the earlier ones don't have.
If the rest of it looks as good as what you see in the photo and the prices is right I'd tow it home with a big grin.

I talked to the guy on the phone about it yesterday. He said after crawling around on the ground, that the box and fenders themselves have no rust at all. The bed how ever is half metal half wood. One fender looks as if someone backed into it, but I got 2 good fenders. The frame and leaf springs have a little surface rust. He wanted $325 for it, but I talked him down to $250 which was my first offer. I plan on making the drive Friday to go get it. He said he might be coming down my way to the valley Friday and he said he'll bring it with him and meet me half way. I don't have a problem with that at all. Sure beats having to drive 4 hours when I can do it in 2, but I will know for sure Thursday night if he's coming or not.

If it's as good as it sounds I'd give him the 250 and buy him lunch.

Re: Is this bed a 47-53??

there is one more thing that will help you tell the year, the 47/48 year had a gas filler hole on the passenger side in front of the fender. where as the 49/53 didn't
