Hook on tailgate

Having a hard time fitting my Hook into my tailgate eye. Is there anyway to adjust this "eye" on my tailgate so that my "Hook and Chain" will fit in my eye bolt. I hope this make sense?

Re: Hook on tailgate

I encountered the same thing the other day myself on the 63 fleetside. I ordered new eye bolts as I thought they were missing and found the originals in a parts bucket. The replacements were larger bolts and would not fit my factory chains. Cleaned up the OEM bolts and they installed with no issue.

Are your bolts or chains replacements or original?

Re: Hook on tailgate

They are new. But I also noticed that the eyes on the tailgate are not equal in the length they protrude from the inside of the tailgate. Is there away to adjust the tailgate eyes?

Re: Hook on tailgate

You can gain some adjustment by threading the pivot ball in or out and securing the jamb nut.

Re: Hook on tailgate

Correct on pivot bolt. I measured the eye's that are part of the tailgate. Left eye protrudes 1.5 inches from inside the tailgate and the right eye protrudes one inch. There has to be a way to adjust them the same length. These are the eyes that are part of the tailgate itself. Come on wise Chevy guru's!!!!!!
