New Motor Fired Up... help question

So, I just fired up my project. After working on this thing for 3 months it was finally time. All new electric, motor, etc.. save it for my build page. Anyway, I fire it, it starts immediately. Ran 10 - 15 seconds and stalled. I fired it up again and it ran 35-50 seconds, but was sounding like it was starving for fuel. I was throttling from the carb, and could see nothing going in.. I then added fuel directly to carb and it would not run...

So my question is: 1. Does this sound like it just needs fuel? No pumping or something. New tank also.

But what makes feel un easy was it not firing again with fuel in carb.. 2. Couldn't lose spark somewhere right?

3. Also had a little burn off coming out of oil fill spot on valve cover.. Is that normal?

This thing litteraly fired right up. Sounds so mean!!

I'd recheck for spark and go from there. If you've got spark, there's no reason why it shouldn't fire if everything is set correctly.

I checked fuel seems good. I did have fuel to front two barrels only. Is that normal? Not a lot either. I am going to check spark next time over. What do you do if you have no spark? Motor ran how could it lose spark?

Could be a multitude of reasons...You need to verify spark. A poor ground could have failed, a distributor wired incorrectly could have burnt a wire or module...? Need some details...

Yeah, hard to say. Is this a first fire deal? Grounds are important.

Update, this thing runs awesome! Yes, figured it out. Checked all grounds, spark, etc. Turned out to be a sticky float. Had her singing last night. Running a little rich, but I will wait to adjust for now. I have to finish the front light harness, and rear light harness, and she is done!

What did you end up doing, taping on the carb or disassembled?

Tap and pumped and boom. Something minor!
