small crack at PS mount-should I fix?

Got my PS box off and found a crack between two holes in the frame. Is it worth having a mobile welder come over and fix it or just leave it alone. I'm going to need a captfab adapter anyway so I thought it would be ok. Any thoughts? BTW if you cant see it, the crack is on the right side of the hole and its cracked twice so the little piece of metal will fall out if I move it.

I would clean it up and see if the cracks go anywhere besides the two holes.

you actually have 3 cracks, 1 radiating upwards. there may be others around the other holes. the bracket will not those cracks from expanding. you will now have added stress on there with the power assist and make it easier for that to flex. the frame will move before the turning action of the vehicle. have all cracks there repaired properly. your life and others. they would pull your vehicle off the road for those cracks.
if you happen to get in a serious accident, if those cracks are found and if they find out if you had prior knowledge that you knew; your ass would never belong to you again.

Re: small crack at PS mount-should I fix?

I took my control arms to a guy I know from car shows in the area today and while he was popping out the ball joints and shafts I asked him about the cracks. He said he could swing by and weld them up while I have the front suspension off. Ten minutes of welding is a lot better than hurting someone. I also found a broken u bolt on the lower control arm so I'm glad I'm doing this rebuild. Looks like I got to things just in time.

Need to pull that bumper bracket. Looks like a crack running that way to. Before you weld them up drill a 1/16" hole at the end of any cracks that don't stop at an edge.

Thanks Jimmy I didn't even see that one. I wanted to pull the bumpers and grill for powder coat anyway. Now I have a good reason. I was planning on buying a welder this fall maybe this will motivate me to do it now. lol

The holes in the end of the crack will keep it from going any further. When yo weld it up take a grinder and V the crack out to get a full penetration weld.

Cool thanx! I heard of the hole thing before but would have never remembered it.
