Installing a newer overdrive tranny
Hey guys I have a 79 Big 10 with your standard 350/350 combo was curious about installing a newer tranny with overdrive. Any Info and where would I start. Also if there is a thread already on this topic please point me in the right direction. Thanks for the help.

Do the whole package 5.3 and the 4L60E you will be very surprised getting 20MPG and extreme performance!

Here is my install of a 4l80e, 4l60e would be the same. It went much smoother then anticipated. Turned out to be an easy swap.

I did the 700r4 in my 77 Big 10. Utilized Bowtie Overdrives TV cable, moved my stock transmission mount back, and a local builder for the transmission. It REALLY is very easy.
Also used electric lock up which utilizes a cruise control brake pedal switch to shut off lock up from Bowtie. |

I also did the TCI EZ-TCU kit to control a 4L60E. Very impressed with the TCI kit, pieces and shift quality. Programming the TCU is a snap. Love the electronically controlled trans over any 700R4 I've ever owned. Shift quality is so much nicer.

If I kept my C20 a 2wd I would of gone with a 4L65E or if you use yours for serious work a 4L80E.
The E series has a bit better of a lock up function with a loose converter which was important to me. |
