possible reason for door gap problem?...

My driver door has a problem where the gap between door and jamb is way too big. i have the top on and even with the door hinges all the way back there is still 3/16-1/4" too much gap. The part i don't get is the gap is even all the way down. We managed to get the passenger side even 3/16" gap top to bottom. I have new mounts, floors, etc. but its like the entire pillar is too far forward. I tried to put on the fender but it wont fit...This gap was also there before all the rust repair was done...any ideas? Frame out of allignment or tub somehow? Any ideas?

i had same prob i could see the door latch when my door was closed it was that bad
before i tell you what i did are your doors new doors

mine is a blazer and i did have my doors reskinned,

well i took a ratchet strap to my truck and put around the front pillar and the other end on the seat belt bolt and tighten it up pretty good left it for a bit and then tighten some more it helped a bit i still had to put washers behind the hinges but it looks alot better now

Don't forget that shimming the body mounts can alter doors gaps, that probably won't be the case for the op though. Reproduction doors could be an issue as well. The repro doors I bought wouldn't fit mine, I couldn't get a gap. There is quite a significant difference in how the repro doors are formed around the hinge mounting points.

Compared to the original. The square was set the same on both doors, there is at least an 1/8" difference there.
