Compressor wirng
I have an electrician here wiring my shop with extra outlets, Heat and a future compressor. I'm wiring for a 240v compressor. The electrician wants to know if I want an outlet or a hard wired switch. I really do not know. I'm thinking a twist outlet. Any advice?

Re: Compressor wirng
Do an outlet but have a switch put inline so you can turn it on and off

Re: Compressor wirng
Sounds good. I was leaning Twist plug but both would be a better option. Do most 240 compressors come with a male plug or for hard wire?

Re: Compressor wirng
Depending on the Amperage and Voltage you can use a Nema L5-30 or L6-30 twist lock plug and outlet.

Re: Compressor wirng
your electrician means you need a means of disconnecting the power by code
you can hard wire it if you have line of sight to the electrical panel either will work; a switch or a plug. the plug will be %10 the cost of the switch. if you go with a plug buy both the outlet and the plug at the same time

Re: Compressor wirng
plug is the best way if you ever have a issue with the compressor you dont need to hire a sparky to come unplug it
