Black top question...

My 72 K5 has a white top but the SPID says it should be black. My plan is to change the top color back to black. The question is, from the factory, what color was the inside of the top if the outside was black? I have seen black inside and out and black outside with white inside. I'm not restoring it so it really doesn't matter but wondered if anybody knew.

Re: Black top question...

Mine is black outside, white inside, but it is a '70 so things may be different by '72. I know it was original that way, but other options may have been available.

Re: Black top question...

My Blazer is the factory Hugger Orange and I love the black top on that color. You guys with the black top inside, does it feel too dark? That's really my only worry. I don't think I have ever had anything completely stock. However, I like stock appearing. This one is going to be a fun driver. Maybe I should start a build thread.

Re: Black top question...

I had a top off a white '70 Jimmy that was black on the outside, white on the inside.

Re: Black top question...

Mike C, any photos of that white Jimmy with a black top? Thinking about doing the same. Top is currently white (inside and out), but needs some work.

This is a resounding yes. Every one loves pictures. Its a good place to keep a record of what you have done. You may think of something that no one else has or at least went about something and documented it that helps someone else.

Re: Black top question...

Looked closer and mine is definitely a repaint. I don't feel it's too dark inside though.

Sorry, I bought the top for the hatch which I repainted and put on my truck. I sold the top later on. The only time it was on my truck is when I went topless to pick it up and bring it home, and that was 25 years ago...

OK, Here you go MC. I tend to be a bit wordy, sorry for the long post. I doubt I'll think of anything different but who knows.

Re: Black top question...

I think I'll try it black outside and white inside. I think that's the way it was looking closer at the top. I see black under the outside paint but all white inside. Thanks guys. Love the pics too!
