Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
I know this post is a few months old but the font on my Spid on my 72 GMC pickup is the Same as this one. I strongly believe it is legit and was done this way at the factory for some unknown reason.

Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
On the bat phone...
BTW- Tachometer is spelled incorrectly and the right margin that true SPIDs have is violated (the letters are cut off at the margin of the paper - words/letters on true SPIDs are truncated before the right lateral margin of the paper).

Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
In answer to Pete's (the op's) question.
To me the SPID is someone's attempt at a replacement. The fact that the model does not match the VIN is interesting but may be a typo. The exception code for the engine is correct for the application and something not easily determined. So I would have to say for the 71 St Louis built Blazer presented the SPID is post factory and; 1) A typo on the VIN during recreation or 2) A SPID recreated to match a transplanted VIN plate from a I-6 Blazer to the SPID information presented for a V8 Blazer. In other words an altered VIN fraud not easily detected by many especially if this was done twenty years ago.

While the format is correct for a 72 Oshawa assembled Canadian Spec. GMC, yours is the only typewritten style I have from Oshawa for 67-72. The typewriter font also appears different between the two SPIDs. It may have had some dealer added options or needed replacement at somepoint. However in your case it would be simple to contact GM Canada and get a printout on you truck. That would tell you a lot right there as to originality. The trim code (611) for Highlander trim in blue plaid is rarely seen on GMCs or for that matter Canadian Spec. Chevy or GMC trucks. Are there pictures of this truck on another thread?

For example for 1965 GTO the "Heavy duty" fan option was misspelled "Heavey". We've seen it on several different factory documents. I suppose as long as human beings are involved in the design and production of vehicles there will be opportunities for mistakes. K

Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
Here are the documents for my truck from GM Canada Vintage Vehicle services that backs up the options on my SPID (Post #27) including the 611 Custom Trim (Blue Plaid / Parchment (Highlander)) seat inserts on a GMC which I understand is rare.
Indeed for some reason the SPID has an odd font, perhaps the dealer had to replace it for some reason. In addition to this thread I have seen a few other examples where the type writer font was used. In my case I do not think that it was done to pull the wool over some unsuspecting buyers eyes. I suppose I will never know if this is from the factory, dealer or otherwise, but I do know that the options listed on the SPID (misspelling and all) match GM Canada's database of the options that my truck was born with, and that is what matters to me. Also all numbers are matching. Engine Code, VIN on B pillar with rosette rivets, SPID, and Frame VIN all match up. SS Tim, There are pictures of my truck here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=483010&page=2 Thank you both for your replies and with your wealth of knowledge. Trying to solve these little mysteries are what makes this hobby interesting. Larry

Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
Who knows... maybe the original got mangled in the printer and so they retyped one by hand. Unlikely though.
The most likely explanation is that someone in the past simply bought a blank SPID sheet and typed in the option list. That they did it reasonably accurately and didn't add a bunch of bogus issues doesn't mean the SPID is real, just that its close to the vehicle. One point of confusion: why do you list it in your sig as a "GMC Super Custom 1500"? Built and delivered in Canada, it should be a GMC 910, shouldn't it?

Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
I believe the 910 designation in Canada ended in 69 or 70. I had a 69 GMC 910.

Re: Ebay sale: is this a real or bogus SPID?
Ah, that's the right, the AutoPact (or AutoPac, not sure) ended in about 1970. Before that Canadian vehicles had to be built in Canada, so we got Beaumonts and Acadians and Laurentians and GMC 9X0 trucks.
