350 Rebuild?

Anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for a 350(4 bolt main)out of a 78 pickup?
Also are the stock heads worth getting machined and rebuilt, or would after market heads be cheaper and easier?
Also, how much roughly can I expect to pay for a shop to check out my block, and maybe even bore it?

You can fins a complete re-build kit on E-Bay for around 200 with top of the line parts. I highly reccommend Mad Dog racing down in Florida. I have bought a few kits from him and he sells top quality parts at rock bottom prices. You still cannot beat a crate motor at 1300 or so unless you are pretty good and have the tools shop etc. A good bore hone cleaning and magnaflux will probably cost you 200 to 300 max. You usually can do better with aftermarket heads rather than re-building your own.

you should just go to your local speed shop for the kit. I like talking to someone in person, rather than over the phone. Check the heads you have. if they have the 1.72" intakes then chuck them. they're no good for a 350 in a truck. find a good set of 1.94"s. you can probably spend $300 for machining on heads and be very happy with the end result. If this is a street truck, then stock heads with mild port job and gasket matched so they flow would be perfect and economical.

I may hold on the 350, my dad has a 77K10 with a 400 thats together and runs pretty good, if he will let me have the truck Ill probably take the 400 change bearings, rings, gaskets, add a cam, intake, and rebuilt Quadrajet and go with that....or maybe even rebuild the whole truck!
