WTB NP440 / MY6 4 speed OD trans
Want to buy: NP440 / MY6 4 speed OD transmission for my auto to manual conversion project on my 1966 C-10. 2wd not 4wd, 1981-1986 Chevy and GMC
Here is a pic of what they look like. Would like the whole setup; bell housing, trans, shifter; but will take the trans only. Leads welcome too, Thanks )bone(

Just so you know, the shifter is specific to that transmission, so get the shifter, too.
There are two mounting patterns: one requires the specific bellhousing, the other will bolt to a regular Chevy bellhousing. -Brad

Re: WTB NP440 / MY6 4 speed OD trans
Just put one in my 63 about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. I had a 3 OTT behind a 283 with 3.73 gears. This tranny changed the whole truck. I found a transmission with the standard chevy bolt pattern so it was easy.good luck in your search

Re: WTB NP440 / MY6 4 speed OD trans
Yes - I swapped one into mine last summer. I pulled my M21 Muncie for it and it was a direct bolt in. Same bolt pattern as my existing bellhousing, same output shaft (new hole in floor for shifter).
As Brad said - get the shifter with the trans. It is a Hurst built piece. Also, the MY6 trans runs Dexron II automatic transmission fluid. See here; https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...65788261,d.aWw Greg.

Anyway, awesome trans, I'm extremely happy with it. 3.42 gears in the factory Dana 44, and it just hums down the highway at 80mph. I had to make a thin sheet metal gasket between mine, with a reinforcement rib bead-rolled into it, because the trans fluid leaks out between the counter shaft and the case. On the Mopars, the whole case is tight against the face of the trans, so a wipe with RTV takes care of it. On my Chevy, I made the thin metal gasket, and the problem was eliminated. One thing about those transmissions, from the Mopar guys, is that with a lot of power and abuse, the counter shaft will wallow out the hole in the aluminum case. I've not been kind to mine, and have had no problem, but it's something to keep in mind. There IS an iron-case version of this trans, that would eliminate that problem. It has the Mopar-style mount and requires the special factory bellhousing. I just found one at my swap meet last year, and am keeping it for a future project. -Brad
