Ignition switch question

I just put a inline 250 into the 53 and am wondering what has been done with installing a new ignition switch. I have a AAW HWY 15 wiring kit installed but have been using the original switch with the foot start button up until now. The universal switch that came with the kit doesn't stick far enough through the bracket at the back of the dash or through the dash itself far enough to screw on the nut from the front of the dash. I don't suppose there is a switch with a start function that fits the original dash huh? Does anyone have a good idea of how to modify the bracket at the rear of the dash to accommidate the universal switch?

Truthfully that is the cleanest and simplest way. A push button starter switch under the dash on the left side of the column or under the dash close to the on ignition switch so you reach under the dash and push UP on the button works well and acts as somewhat of a safety device as you have to do two things to start or crank the truck.

Universal switches don't fit the hole in the dash very well and the one I have in the 48 is known to come loose fairly often. They do have the advantage of having an accessory position if you are prone to listening to your sound system with the truck sitting with the ignition off. I got out of that habit when I had to bum a jump start years ago.

54 went to a push button on the dash.

Re: Ignition switch question

After looking at it a little more today I think I will do just what you guys recommended. The original switch still works fine and looks alot better than the univarsal one. I think I will find a push button and mount it under the dash next to the switch. That should be easy to use and be pretty much out of site too.

Thanks.
