Need direction
I need ideas and motivation!
I've had my project for a few months and its running like a champ but now I can't figure out what to do with it. I've thought about every single color and combination but can't settle on anything. I'm looking for value and appreciation of the project. 1. I don't really want a rat rod, i know its the perfect start. 2. I want something i can resell if needed so not an absurd investment but does have some value. 3. I'm not going to bag or lower it. I'd like suggestions on color combinations, I'm leaning towards pin stripes on the sides and down the hood, two tone bright red bottom and either white or silver top. I'm in Texas so black is too hot and my mustang is already blue. Is it a pain to get the cab off the frame? Can i just unplug the wiring/steering/brakes unbolt and lift it off? Is it worth the effort to clean up the frame? Transmission tunnel cover was in the bed, the passenger side isn't as bad but still rusty. |

Re: Need direction
Looks pretty cool as-is. Put some clean tires on it and shiny trim and call it a day.

Re: Need direction
What is the original color? I would paint it that mint color with white accents. I know there is a GM paint name but I don't remember it right now. Here is a Hot rod flatz color that is similar. I used the speed blue and now wish I went with this color. It's easy to use and the satin color looks nice. Come by and see it if you want I live in Killeen.

Re: Need direction
Other than wires and lines it's about 6 bolts to get the cab off. Then you'll need a cherry picker or 4-5 strong friends to lift it off .

Re: Need direction
Some matching shoes would help a bit.

Re: Need direction
I may try plasti dip so I don't have to sand off a bad decision. I bought small amounts of 4 different blues before picking the color for the mustang, I knew exactly what I wanted just couldn't seem to find it. I just don't know with the truck.
It has matching wheels, I only had to swap 3 to get it onto the trailer and removed as much tread from the last one as I could before it gave out. I plan to change them to something chrome with raised white letters, just got those to roll around on. The mint color is one of them I'm tossing around or one of the blues that is already on the truck but i figured with a big block red might be more hot rod'ish. |

Re: Need direction
That truck is amazing and I love the tailgate and styling they used, very classy! No oil money but I have all the tools and some materials left over from the first toy so it will be sheet metal and paint, I'm only in it for maybe 1200 at this point. Where is everyone getting their metal from? LMC? I need new front fenders, too much to try and hammer out dents plus patch rust.

Re: Need direction
Depending on how you value your time and/or pay others, it may be a challenge to get your investment back out of it...let alone make money on it.

Re: Need direction
I would do mechanical and issues first then worry about paint. Some rims with caps to keep a stock feel. I have a buddy who has a truck in the garage with over 10 years on the paint but has not been on the road. Me, truck has been primer since day one but on the road most of the time. Perfer to drive while working on it.

Re: Need direction
The gmc and chevy hoods are interchangeable, but have different park/turn lamp lenses
