Mustang II Power Rack & Pinion movement
Knowing how may folks here have a mustang II front end in there truck, I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue? When I crank the steering wheel with the truck not running, the Rack has enough side play that the steering shaft u-joint rubs on the Heidts cross member. Perhaps the bushing are just old (15-18 years) and need to be replaced? I ended up making a cutout in the cross member for clearance. What free play (if any) is normal?

Re: Mustang II Power Rack & Pinion movement
Generally there is minimal movement with a M2 rack. Change the bushings to a polyurethane style. That will eliminate the major area where movement can come from.

Re: Mustang II Power Rack & Pinion movement
Thanks thunderjet.
I just ordered a set. My goal is to get my truck on the road (plated and insured) before the end of this summer. I finally have the vision of the finished product in my mind. Frank |
