Cleaning Chassis

Besides scraping off the bulk of the dirt/grease, what is the best degreaser to use when cleaning 40+ years of build up on a chassis? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some people use oven cleaner, just hold your breath around that stuff it is tuff! I bought a TP tools copy of the Dyna zip with the wire fingers on it to do the under side of my cabs bed floor and frames with. They are real big with the Chevelle crowd on the rotisseres that have all the undercoating that has to come off that is a nightmare. I remembered that dread on my Elco, so I ordered one before I pulled my 70 cab to put it on the rotissere. Jim

I used the oven cleaner and a good pressure washer when I did mine. Worked well, but I had to go over it several times.

I blast with a pressure washer, then go over with a twisted wire wheel attached to an angle grinder. Will get you almost to bare metal, but it is a nasty job. Every time I do it, I swear I will never do it again.

You will be amazed at what a Hot Water Pressure Washer will do.

I used the harbour freight wire wheel set and it works fine. If you put the time in it, you wont want to paint haha

Try to find a mobile co with a high pressure steam cleaner.

POR Marine clean or a similar bilge cleaner are the best de-greasers and will remove 40 years of caked on junk.

Didn't believe it until I tried it. I second marine clean. Water based too so you don't have to fear EPA issues if you live in that sort of area. I would also second a pressure wash before marine clean. No sense wasting the product if a pressure wash can blast some chunky stuff off.

I tried just about everything that was recommended. POR15 Marine Clean is by far the best of all the chemicals.

She's a bit high maintenance isn't she? At least it's not Coach bags.

I just cleaned mine a couple weeks ago. I used Super Clean, got it at Napa and it did the trick. Soaking 30 minutes then hit it with my powerwasher 4 times. What little parts were caked on good I got after with a chisel.
