No bed, no problem 64'
I'm not the type to document everything done, and or the process of procedure on my rides...But It's always fun to keep tabs on progress and share.
After finishing my '46 Chevy truck, moving onto a '32 I never finished, and taking over a 63' 3 door build I missed having something fun. A good friend picked this up a few years back with the best intentions in mind...After a year and a half of it never running right, and issues including the original bed falling off(while driving) I took it upon myself to rescue it. 1964 long bed 283 3speed 2wd base model (I would guess). I picked it up knowing it ran like ish, but it ran, and drove 100 miles. Not a single issue...Until I pulled into my shop and the fuel pump exploded, front oil seal gave out, valve cover gasket took a poop, and brakes sank to the floor. But it made it. The Truck was stock, I found nothing molested or really touched minus the addition of HEI and some small upgrades so I found changing some of the original patina and coolness hard to do. I freshened up the engine(cam had six flat lobes....no wonder it ran like ish), new cam(444/466-298) lifters, pushrods, rockers, re sealed, flushed and carbon cleaned, rebuilt 1406 carb, ram horns ,exhaust, suspension, brakes(still 4wheel drum but they work!) de-greased everything and por15 and re sprayed frame and under body, mounts and bushings, stained the bed with vinegar steel wool and coffee, new wiring, shocks, rear drop springs, front springs minus a coil or so, whitewalls and some spray paint....oh and removed a lot of bad rattle can rustolium... Plans are eventually....power disk brakes, bag it and twin 15.5 keg gas tanks. That's about it, I really don't think it needs much else. I love driving it almost everyday to work, rides like a Cadillac and sounds it means business. I just wish there was easier way to fit my two Great Danes in the cab. |

Re: No bed, no problem 64'
Freshened up the engine bay, and when doing so did some research on the heads that came on my little 283. Corvette power pack heads! Now just to clean the block and run the numbers to see if it matches the heads.

Re: No bed, no problem 64'
Simple update, new exhaust and re jetted 1406. 2.5 inch dual from the corvette manifolds back to a pair of FLowtech chamber mufflers. Rebuild/Retuned/Rejetted 1406.
Started to clear parts of the truck here and there. And I've been fighting to get a Flickr video on here for 30 minutes...But I give up. I'll attempt it later. |
