trailer brake question

Dose my 07 silverado classic have any kind of integrated trialer brake?? Or do i need to go out and buy a brake controler. I saw some on etrailer.com that seemed straight forward to instal, but before i drop some coin i just need to make sure that i need a brake controler or not. I hooked up a multi meter to the the trailer brake pin on the 7 pin conector but didn't get any volts when i had my wife push on the brake. I was wondering if any of these trucks came with an integrated trailer brake or not.

My vintage tailer has a new axle with electric brakes that i would like to take advantage of. Its almost time to go camping and i want to have everything sorted out before we hit the road for the first time.

Every thred needs some pics, so here are some of the trailer that we will be camping in soon.

You need a controller and the Plug and play harness. My 05 Ext cab had the 7 pin installed. Under the dash there is a small access area where your power options are plugged into. There is a little knob that unscrewes to access it. The trailer brake controller harness plugs in there. Mount the contoler and your ready. Took about 20 minutes to install mine. I got all my stuff off of Amazon. Digital read out controller and harness. Was like $60.00 for both and shipping. If in dire need local parts stores should have them.

Thanks for the reply onebad65c10, Yeah im not worried about installing the break controler as it seems really straight forward if you get the plug and play harness. But my dad seemed to think that i already had an integrated trailer break on my truck since it came with the tow package. But i didn't think so.. And if it did i couldn't see how you would be able to adjust breaking force.

Oh ok. Yea he may be thinking about the New body style. Thiers is built in to the main computer and has the gain controller in the lower dash. The read out is in the gauge cluster.

Think the tow package is the hitch 7 pin connector and the additional trans cooler.

If your truck was ordered with Z82 (trailering package RPO) originally, one of these should be floating around inside somewhere: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-GM...693399&vxp=mtr

Each of our trucks in that generation were ordered with Z82 and we had that harness stuffed in a door pocket or under rear seat when the trucks were delivered. If your's is gone, good news, they're cheap on ebay.

That's a cool looking vintage camper. Early 60's ? My wife and I started with a 71 Redmon Roadliner, just a little bit larger than yours. I don't know the exact weight but it pulled heavy. I learned a lot about campers with that one. We spent the whole first summer cleaning and rebuilding it. It didn't take long to figure out we wanted more room. The next year we upsized.

83GMC, did you mean Z85 instead of Z82? I have a 2006 1500 with the factory tow package and it is a Z85(only one I've ever seen). Or are there more than 1 tow package option?

I will never understand how GM puts these RPOs together:

VR4: TRAILER HITCH(WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING PLATFORM) EQLZR HITCH(VR4) <--that is physically the hitch itself.
Z82: TRAILERING PACKAGE(SPECIAL)(REESE TYPE HITCH) PROVISION FOR HD TRAILER EQUIP(Z82) <--including the wiring for the brake controller, a 40A fuse, and probably some other subtle features.
Z85: CHASSIS PACKAGE,INCREASED CAPACITY CHAS PKG(Z85) <--suspension upgrades, likely...would need to hear from Keith Seymore or someone of similar experience.

I agree,it confused me. Never saw a Z82 and mine is the only Z85 I've seen. Thanks, I'm smarter now.

Its a 1958 Deville. Its not perfect but it was restored nicely. I dont have the skill or time to acomplish something like this, so my wife and i decided to buy something completely finished, that we could go out with and enjoy. We wanted something around 12' feet becuase we really have no storage at our house. My neighborhood is mostly all old small houses and small lots, our house was built in 1914. We are lucky and have a long driveway that barely fits the camper my 70' gmc and the wifes subaru, i have to park the silverado out on the street. A lot of the old homes here in this area have no driveways or garages.
