front upper shock bolt doesn't wanna come out
I must be an idiot b/c I cannot get out the front upper shock bolt. I've got the nut & lock washer off the back (inside the frame), I can spin the bolt around and around with a wrench on the other end, but the sucker will not come out of the frame. I've been whacking it with a mallet on the inner-frame side trying to push it out of the hole but it's not moving (only have about 3" of backswing to hit it due to headers). Is there some mysterious component I'm overlooking?

That isn't how mine is set up, I have a 64 tho. I'd say just don't give up. Penetrating oil, maybe some heat, keep at it. Infact I'd cut that whole bracket off and use the style of bolt mount that I have... Ha I'll look for a pic...

Maybe I'm wrong but these work good. If you can see it.

Re: front upper shock bolt doesn't wanna come out
It's like bolt head, washer, shock bushing, large nut welded to bolt, frame, washer, nut. I bet the sleeve on the bolt isn't letting the bolt go through the bracket. It's prolly rusted or corroded onto the bolt itself and to wide to fit through the hole on the bracket.

Re: front upper shock bolt doesn't wanna come out
I just did the same thing today. There is a sleeve over the bolt. Spray it with a little penetrating oil and spin it till you can see the seam where the sleeve comes together. Take a small chisel or screwdriver (as I used) and hammer and wedge it open a little on both sides of the shock and it will come loose from the bolt.

Re: front upper shock bolt doesn't wanna come out
I agree w/the rust & corrosion keeping it from coming out. Cut the head of the bolt off & knock it through from outside the frame rail where you can get more of a 'swing' w/no headers in the way.
