Specs/Data needed for 68 3/4 ton
I just picked up a 68 3/4 ton Custom Camper edition truck for a song. $500 bucks! It has the factory original 327, 4 barrel, 3 spd on the column and thats about all I know about it so far. I did see a plate on the drivers door that said 7500 rating. My questions are many but need good data. What is the horsepower? Torque?
What about hauling and towing capacities? Rear end options? The truck runs great! Really bad gas milage so the rear must be really low. I drove it about 70 miles home and used a half tank of gas. Body is in great shape with the exception of one cab corner but typical. Everything works on it...lights, gauges, wipers, etc. Any thoughts of what it is worth with a moderate restoration? Any idea on any rarity to this truck? Yes I did a search on most of these topics but didn't find any real helpful data...any Chevy truck brainiacs want to ring in? |

Welcome.
Your rear end ratio will either be 4:10 or 4:56. I think 4:10 was standard with that drivetrain. If it has an optional ratio, it will be listed on glovebox RPO data sheet.

Your 327 Should be around 240gross hp factory. Gross torque is 305.
The way I understand it 7500 pounds is the most your truck will handle. You'll have to subtract the wieght of the truck and occupants to get the load/towing rating. I'll have to do a little digging to find out what your curb weight is. It sounds like you have a great truck. Have any pictures to post??

Welcome to the board from central ohio....
What part of the country you in? The body sounds pretty nice to me if you are only commenting on a cab corner. |

Its not really a rare truck....you don't see very many '68 C20's around, but they made alot and they are out there.
Depending on the quality of the restoration, a truck with a nice body and paint that runs good and is in generally good shape usually goes from $5000 up

Thanks so far guys....North Alabama here. I will get some pics and post by this weekend. The truck is two tone blue and white with a mint green interior....the RPO sticker is intact and very legible. Has some light surface rust but nothing that can't be taken care of real easily. More to follow.
