Seat Options

Hi All,

I stumbled across this site while researching a truck I was looking to buy (and did); what a great resource!

I have a couple of questions on seat options for my truck; the previous owner had a leather cover installed with orange piping and I would like to go back to stock. It is a 72 Cheyenne Super C10 with the parchment interior; I am struggling to find any good resources that can tell me what the seat colour actually was. Based on the rest of the interior I am guessing it would have been red vinyl with white houndstooth but that doesn't seem to be available from anywhere I can find; I could find white with white HT, off-white vinyl with white HT or red vinyl with red HT.

The interior on the SPID is the 162610 parchment and the body is the 146110 white/med red/white. Here is an interior pic of how it is currently, appreciate any help here.

The following is a photo of a truck that also carries 162210. It says "reupholstered to correct year and style", but no idea if that's accurate.

Google VIN CCE142J114400 and you should find it.

The picture Davepl put up is close to stock. The steering wheel is a later replacement but black column and wheel are correct.

Which one, the one I pasted or the OP's truck? But is says frame-off restoration and I read it on the Internet, so it must be true. I would have assumed white with red insert, and in fact, when it went through Russo & Steele they listed this:

162610 - Parchment Trim Interior ( WA5476 - RED) - ( 3624 - WHITE)

So I'd think red would be the houndstooth color, but am not an expert.

The aftermarket is abound with incorrect houndstooth covers.

The three Cheyenne Super (YE9) trim colors were:
626 Parchment (off white) vinyl with black and white houndstooth cloth inserts
610 Blue vinyl with black and blue houndstooth cloth inserts
632 Olive vinyl with black and green houndstooth cloth inserts

When the optional buckets were also ordered (YE9 & A50) there were more color options, but the seats (and most of the interior) were the same as a Cheyenne and all vinyl without a cloth insert. So houndstooth buckets in any color are incorrect.

Red trim was not offered on 71-72 Cheyenne Supers, IIRC it was only offered on the 40-70 series trucks and possibly as a fleet order at the Custom level on C10-30s.

Thanks for the input all,

I appreciate it. For now I am mostly focused on the seat, will work on the rest over time, I actually prefer the black cluster and that the MacTac is off the door panels. Will probably end up keeping the white column unless I get tired of it but the white dash pad will be the next replacement.

From what I have read so far it is a bench interior as it doesn't call buckets out on the SPID; looks like it is the white with HT. Now to find a decent interior shop...thanks again.

to return you interior to stock Cheyenne Super, you'd need to:
- install the parchment houndstooth seat cover depicted above
- add the woodgrain to your door panels (stock on Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers).
- remove the Cheyenne door emblems (inside)
- black dash pad
- black column
- original black steering wheel
- replace the turn signal and tilt levers with stock
- install a woodgrain gauge bezel
- parchment seat belts
- can't see it in pics, but overhead vinyl insert should be parchment. I think.. I never really look up. (black??) Hmm, I don't recall for certain.

Some supers came with black glovebox color, other with body color.
What else am I missing? Hope that helps.

I'd purchase the seat cover from Tim (Truckseats) on this site. I've purchased two from him and am VERY pleased with the quality.

(note - 2nd pic has incorrect black belts)

Oh, and welcome to the forum! Show us your SPID!! Am assuming it has YE9 on there to denote it as an original super.

Not that I can remember. There is at least one thead on it. But most of the Supers I have seen have body color doors.
As far as I can tell there was no specific body colors with the black as some suggest. Know of a Dark Olive with black. One thought I had was that they may have tried off line/vendor assembly (the applique and emblem to glove box door) and black would permit that with ease and no scheduling issues.

Wait until you get into Canadian built vehicles. Of course we had our own models up there (GMC 910, Pontiac Beaumont, etc), but even Canadian-built versions of US models had their own oddities.

For example, the firewall on Chevy II is black or body color depending on the country it was built in. And if you look at a 70 Chevelle, if the grill divider is body color it is US and if it is black it's Canadian.

So if anyone gives you gumption about a detail being wrong, just blame Canada.

The upside of a Canadian car or truck is they are much easier to authenticate; not sure why GM doesn't offer the same service for US built. All you have to do here is get in touch with Oshawa with the VIN and they can give you the complete build data, I remember when I did this years ago on my 67 Impala ragtop they even sent me a copy of the microfiche that showed about 5 or 6 VINs on either side of mine in the build schedule.

Yep, if I were to invest in a big dollar car I'd almost make being Canadian a requirement. The fact that re-stamping blocks is now acceptable was the start of a slippery slope. You can buy build sheets, window stickers, SPIDs, trim tags, and maybe even VIN tags, though that might be illegal.
