To post a build or not post a build?

I am on the fence about posting my project/build. i have my 68 in pieces and i bought a 2008 for its motor, tranny, computer, fuel tank, a/c, brake lines & system. i know it could benefit people down the road, but most of the builds seem to take two to three years. i can foresee mine taking way longer, and i don't want it to drag out a thread that long, but with my busy work schedule and dozens of mod's i will probably have to. So my question "to post a build or not post a build?"

criticism's, comments, questions welcome!!

thats what the build section is for. Who cares how long it takes anyway? its not like we are all sitting around holding breath waiting for you to finish and disappointed when theres no status updates.

Don't even look at the date of my first post in my build thread. I'm not sure at this point if its embarrasing or admiral its been this long. I'm still as enthusiastic about it as day 1 though.

Don't forget, you have to think up a cute name for the build first

Re: To post a build or not post a build?

Just throwing out my thoughts even though it looks like you've decided to start one.

I've been on mine hard for the past several months, getting real close to firing it up for the first time since I've owned, bagged, notched, spindles etc etc. HOWEVER the reason I have not started one is I feel it's just the same ol stuff, these cats have seen it all 100 times. The majority of what I've done I learned from this site so I don't see how it would be of any benefit to anyone or even the slightest bit entertaining.

LOL with all that said, I more than likely will once I like the way it looks and drives, specifically just to THANK the board and members for all the priceless knowledge provided here.

I like to lurk in to them and learn a ton.

Not sure if this has been done, but why not break you build into sections such as suspension, steering, engine, interior as opposed to one full build. That way each step is one thread and it won't feel like years of completion. Besides, then if someone else is doing that particular step they can go to your thread for tips/photos without having to sift through the other build aspects they aren't currently working on.

I was in the same boat. I took lots of pictures and documented the process so I could get it back together. I did a build thread after I was done.

Re: To post a build or not post a build?

I don't believe there is a set time or deadline for any build. Go at your own pace. One of the best things I like about a build thread is, it time lines everything. It's really a great way to document your progress. It's cool to go back through your own build and see how many different directions you went or changed. August will be 4 years since starting my build and I don't foresee it being completed before two more years. Which ever you decide good luck and enjoy it, that's what's important.

Re: To post a build or not post a build?

good call lucky
i was actually thinking about doing this. what i had thought about doing was completing the truck in sections on a regular thread. then in the build thread post a link. So in the begining it will show a before and after of lets say the frame, then if i had posted questions in a regular thread or comments from everyone i would have a link in the build thread for the frame.

Thoughts???

Re: To post a build or not post a build?

That could work. I think it would be good for all of the parts to be broken down. The links could work to keep it simple, but that part may be time consuming to keep up with which thread you were answering questions. I would do what Lee H did and post your actual build thread AFTER the truck is done, with the old links to your section build threads. But thats just my .02

Re: To post a build or not post a build?

I posted some pics when I started my rust repair part of my project, could i turn that into a build post and then just continue on since it got pretty extensive?
How would I do that?
Thanks
