Question Front End Conversion Year?

Just put new front wheel bearings and seals last weekend. Need some help for future reference. Front end is only thing I haven't rebuilt on my '67. Previous owner or someone put disc on front. Bearings were found to be for HD rotors. My '67 has 2" CPP drop springs (found # on em) and Chassis Tech drop spindles (unsure of drop amount no numbers). The upper control arms have bolted on ball joints.
Sooooo....How do I tell what year of parts I currently have on truck so I can buy in future when they wear out? I bought the bearings for a '75 but found those crossed with a bunch of other years.
I'm guessin I have mostly a 73-87 setup but I'm not for sure. How to tell? Give me any and all info. Thanks

Re: Front End Conversion Year?

With the information you gave, its a bit hard to know exactly what you need as there are alot of options within the same parts listed....

Wheel Bearings - you stated that you used '75 model HD bearings. This leads me to you have 1 1/4" thick rotors. If so, then any year '73-'87 with the 1 1/4" rotor wheel bearings work.

Ball Joints - This can be tricky...All upper ball joints from '63-'87 trucks bolt into the same mounting pattern as you described. Question for you: Does your Upper and/or Lower A-arms have rubber bushings or steel bushings? Rubber bushings started in 1973.

Outer Tie rods - This can be tricky too...many companies sell drop spindles that are year specific and that effects the ball joints and tie rod ends.

Some pictures of what you had could/would be helpful for others to help you get the info you are looking for.

Re: Front End Conversion Year?

Balljoints, tie rods and spindles all have to match.
73-87 would all be the same.
Bearings will be rotor specific.
Just like the calipers.
1" light duty or 1-1/4" HD rotor width.

Re: Front End Conversion Year?

I'm guessing I've got 73-87 rotors, calipers, and pads.
I know I've got HD rotors.
No idea of ball joint or tie rod year(s).
Guessing stock year control arms.
Guessing stock year match for the Chassis Tech (no part #'s) drop spindle.
Educate me.

Looks like the original '67 crossmember.
A-arms could be 67-70 or 71-72.
Steel brake line routing is on the front of the crossmember, which means 71-72.
My "guess" is 71-72 drop spindles.
The ONLY WAY to know for sure,... is to verify the UPPER ball joint or the outer tie rod.
They will be either 71-72 specific,... or,... 73-87 specific.
Take one or the other to a parts store and verify what you have.

Re: Front End Conversion Year?

Nope, those are not slide on rotors. I have seen some with chamfers on that side of the rotor at the lug holes...
