64 chevy/GMC HP options?
Is there a package like the "SS" that they offered for the 64 chevy C10? I was tossing around the " clone" idea.

Re: 64 chevy/GMC HP options?
In 1964 a truck was exactly that - A TRUCK, nobody was thinking that an "SS" truck would be the thing to have. "SS" stood for Super Sport, hard to imagine a 1964 "SS" pickup.
Make it your interpretation of a 64 "SS" there are no guide lines. |

Re: 64 chevy/GMC HP options?
There were no high performance packages offered, but there's no reason why you couldn't clone one if you did your homework and made it fit the era.
Make the engine resemble a 64 'Vette engine with the right valve covers and air cleaner. Look through all of the SS badges that were used in '64 and see if you could situate them in the right place on the truck for a factory look. The trick would be to make it all look subtle and not over-done and fake. I think it would be fun!

An SS pickup would be one with a 327 V8. lol So many of these pickups came with little 230 or 250 6 bangers that when I find one with a 292 I6 or 327 V8 I think of SS pickup. lol I would have loved to see a Special Order truck with a 396 in 66..if you could special order that engine..I know it came in the Chevelle in 66.

348 and 409 were optional engines.....would have been the best thing for an "SS" option in my opinion.

Re: 64 chevy/GMC HP options?
A 409 would be really cool, or for a bit less money, you could build a 365 horse 327, like what came in the '64 Vettes. My neighbor has a '64 Vette with a 365 horse 327. They were carbureted, not fuel injected like the later 375 versions. According to my neighbor, an old hot rodder from back in the '60s, the carbureted versions were faster than the Fuelie versions. I've ridden in his '64, and it's real strong, especially with the M-21 and a 4.11 posi.
A buddy of mine is a hard-core Pontiac guy, and he wants to put a 389 in a '60-'66 GMC. I like the idea, and I think a 389 would make a great truck engine. A 421 would be even better!
