CP7605 at Autozone. If they aren't smart enough to type "dwell" in their own search engine, I'd order one online. Any Sears in Kentucky?

That's funny. Sad, but funny. Unfortunately local parts stores are hit and miss as to what automotive education they picked up. It's not their fault really, the curriculum is geared towards the common life span of new cars, roughly the last 15 years of technology. Random question though, why haven't you switched to HEI?

Re: Which carb???

Here's some info on setting the dwell. IF you're anything like me I like to know why, more than how stuff works.

Keep your head up brother .. you'll get it. This is just part of the fun, having issues like this and working your way through them. That's the best way to learn.

I would especially agree with that last part. An HEI (high energy ignition - it's an electronic distributor) will make your truck more reliable and your life easier. No need to get really fancy, because the GM HEI is as good as any made. You can find one in a wrecking yard fairly inexpensively.

I agree with one "but". A dwell/tach will still serve your tach needs with an HEI. It's kind of a must have tool. I would get your current set up right, then get your carb right, then upgrade to HEI.

Re: Which carb???

Funny you mention hei, I just want the truck mechanically as it was in 72 plus I like to keep the old technology alive, I have a box with probably 4 or 5 hei distributors and a whole crapload of caps bc my dad had a junkyard but as of right now I don't want it
