200r4

I was wondering if anyone is running this trans in there trucks? Ive got a 65 shortbed and I drive on the highway to get everywere I go. I've got a 3.73 rear and 25.5 in tall tire and I'm reving the motor a little tight to get to 70. Will these trannies hold up to daily driving in a heavy truck? I'm getting one out of an 87 monte carlo ss with a 305.

Your probably a lot better off getting a 700-R4. They are a little beefier.

i have the 200-4R tranny for 21/2 years now have put close to 40thousand miles on it without a problem. b-4 installing it was builtup at a tranny shop and it is actually rated for more power than a 700R4. if fit right in no cutting driveshaft the only mod was relocating the tranny crossmember to the th400 position

The gearing is better suited in the 200-4R also.
I hope to go to one of these one day in teh caddy longhorn. Asuming it ever leaves the driveway under its own power.

I have the 200r in my 63. I run 308 gears and 17 inch tires. I have about 10,000 miles on it with no problems. It pulls a trailer with a harley on at as well as a harley in the bed of the truck.

I think I'm gettin a good deal at 225 for tranny converter and flywheel. All I have to buy is the lockup kit from summit or someone. I plan on building a 383 later this year but I will adress the rebuild part at that time. I just want an overdrive that I dont have to sppend alot of money on and dont have to shorten the driveshaft. Hey ironbuttlcmc any pics?

Your best bet is to get a kit that addresses the TV cable properly too. If the line pressure is not right, you'll be doing it again in 10,000 miles.
bow tie overdrives sells a kit that has recieved high praises on this board and in the magizines.

So your saying that the 200r4 is basically a direct bolt in in like a 350 truck? What exactly are the mods needed. I have 1/2 ton 72 with 350/th350 tranny now. If it doesn't need driveshaft shortened are the splines and everything else the same. If all I need to do is slide the tranny crossmember to th/400 and pickup a tv cable I think even I could handle that. What models and years of vehicles do I look for to find the 200r4.
Thanks

by the way i was refuring to 18x39.5x16.5 inch super swampers on my sub. i got my tranny from pick a part on a half off day. the tranny and converter cost me 40.00 bucks. the splines on the tail shaft of the 2004r are the same as the th350. you just need to move your cross member back. it also uses the same trans mount as the th350. mine is out of a 88 olds. they are also in the buick grand nash's. you have to get a carb linkage that has the tv cable hookup on it. you'll need the converter bolts from the doner car or you need to get some from a parts house. the bolts for the 2004r are metric and the th350 are sae. the flex plate from your th350 will work for the 2004r, so no need to look for another one.
hope this helps you make you mind up.

One thing to double check, the @00-4R was in many BOP aplicaions, and does have a dual bolt pattern, however, not all the converters will work.
Some engines had a raised mounting point on the flywheel...while others had flat mounting on the flywheel. Manke sure the converter you get is off of a flat flywheel.
