Two things come to mind. One, the latch can be reached by sliding your fingers through the grille. That would be tight. Two, the latch can be reached with a bent hook, or the latch is changed out for one that goes into the cab.

It would probably only work on the trucks with the internal hood release option, without modifying. However I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to cut out the area needed for one with an external release.

You could do that, couldnt be hard to do if you have a grinder on hand. This might not work, but you could try taking a piece of heavy gauge black wire and connecting it the the release somehow and running it through the front of the grill, pull it to pull the hood release.(not saying this will work, just my $.02.)
