Lower Rad Hose
Just finishing up the final touches on my 454/Tremec swap in my 67 C10. I ordered a lower hose for a 68 BB C10 and its no where near close to fitting. The 454 I put in has a long nose water pump and I can only assume the 68 BB has a short nose water pump, hence why the hose might not fit. For now I fabricated my own out of multiple hose with steel inserts and gear clamps to get the shape I need and to get the thing going. I don't really want to go with one of those tacky universal hoses. I'm sure there's someone on here that's put a BB in one of these trucks with the long nose pump. Just like everything else with this swap...... Fabrication, Fabrication, Modification......
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Jon |

Re: Lower Rad Hose
1973 was the first year for a 454 pickup. Full size cars had big blocks also.
What size is the outlet on the radiator. Does it come straight out of the radiator or have a slight bend in it??? My 68 BB has a slight bend in the lower radiator outlet, never seen on on any other application... I used a dayco number 70324 for a 73 Camaro w/ a much larger radiator than was ever installed in any 2nd gen Camaro. It had the larger lower outlet on the radiator. This was a small block application, but non stock stuff... |

I ran into the same problem that your having and I finally gave in to the universal flex hose. I shopped around for a while and couldn't find anything that would fit. If you find something I would like to know about it so I can get rid of the flex hose. |

Re: Lower Rad Hose
Problem solved. I found out that the lower hose that was provided to me was for a 6cyl. I bought a lower rad hose for a 1971 C10 with a 402. A little trimming on the radiator end and it fits perfectly.
The rad is a performance replacement aluminum that looks just like the factory copper one with the exception of the welded tanks and water outlets. Nice shot of semi-gloss black and you can't tell unless you look really carefully. The lower water outlet kicks up just like the factory BB rad does |
