Is this amp gauge working right? (Pics)
So I checked the two 4 amp fuses to see why my new amp gauge was not working. One was missing the other was so corroded that it destroyed the socket when I opened it up. I replace the missing fuse and wired in a 4 amp fuse holder from a radio. Now it works maybe, I'm not sure what do you guys think? When I turn on the headlights it move about an eighth inch to the left, when I start the truck it moves about an eight inch to the right. I expected more. Is this how your guys work? Here's some pics.

Not entirely related, but in my 2+2 I have a 100A alternator and the factory ammenter just PEGS itself when charging hard... probably because the factory unit was 30 or 40A at best I imagine.

Anybody know if I can just take a 30 amp fuse holder from the local parts store and wire that in then put a 4 amp fuse in it? I can't find the original for sale anywhere online.

any weather proof fuse holder should work fine . and it would be ok to put the 4 amp fuse in it also ...

Amp gauge is working fine from what you show and tell. When the truck is off and you put a load on the gauge as the lights being on it is correctly showing a draw on the system to the left of the hash mark with nothing being put back into it.
With the truck on then it should move to the right because the alternator is putting back more than the lights are taking. Now go buy yourself a good volt meter gauge and hook it up to see what voltage your truck is using.

Thanks for the help everybody and I apreciate the offer Jim but I found a fuse holder today. Glad to have this sorted out, I'm tired of looking at wiring diagrams haha!

I thought I'd throw this out there because I -think- it's true and might be useful to others. The ammeter in our trucks (and most vehicles) is not a true ammeter. The current being charged or discharged does not actually run through the gauge, which would take some serious 8 gauge cables to and from it.
There's a sense line that runs from the dash cluster out to the main charging harness. I believe all the ammeter is made up of is a voltage comparator of some sort.
