Motor plate guys

How much did you leave on your motor plate when you trimmed it down? I have my pattern at this stage right now, I had more on the outer edges as when I finish off my cage I'd like to attach a couple more tabs from the forward bars to the plate, then trimmed it a bit more.

I think I should still be able to add the extra attachment point if I cut it like this, if you run a motor plate please post some pictures of how you did yours.

Mine is like yours in the pic but flush with the outer edge of the frame.

Re: Motor plate guys

Not sure why my template looks like it hangs over the rail so much and angles out in the picture???

It is actually only about 1/4 over the edge and goes straight up on the sides.

Re: Motor plate guys

Are you going to install a mid plate also?

Eventually yes, have one ordered but right now there is a header tube in the way, have it booked for a set of custom headers this fall so will risk this season without one. I can leave the passenger side motor mount on if that would make any difference but the drivers has to go, and a limiter bar will go in, or both mounts out, and a pair of limiters in are my current options.

Re: Motor plate guys

Mine is mounted to a plate that spans the frame rail top to bottom. Thats the best pic I have. You will also need to do something with engine limiters. Mine bolt to the old motor mount bosses on the block. They then went forward to the old crossmember. Make sure you use a quality rubber trans mount.

Re: Motor plate guys

I'm running a Prothane poly mount and have a limiter for both sides.

Re: Motor plate guys

I fab'd my chassis mounts to index the motor plate, so I didn't have to muscle anything around - I welded a small tab as a lip for the bottom of the plate, and machined the angle on the ends of the plate to correspond with the angled vertical of the chassis mount - this worked as guides as the engine was dropped down.

…it ended up being a smaller version of Jerry Bickel's plate mount:

Re: Motor plate guys

Vacuum pumps water pump etc is intended to be on the face of the motor plate.

But..... Alternators are always a PITA,, plan ahead
