They do have to vent to work right.
I'm going to run one simply because there is a chance that it might build up enough pressure in slow traffic like being in line to get into an event and puke and on mine that ends up coming right up through the louvers even when the hose is on it right and shoots down towards the ground.

Here's mine, and yes, it does work properly, I can see the fluid going back into the radiator as things cool off.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
