Cheap radiators
Anybody use a cheap aluminum radiator from ebay? They are around $200 or so. Just wondering if they are any good.

Re: Cheap radiators
I have one in my truck and it works great, it just didn't fit all that great. I ended up having to trim one of the lower mounts to clear the bung for the trans cooler and had to modify the upper mount which sat too high. Mine was from ECP I think. With twin electric fans the temperature stays right around 190.

Re: Cheap radiators
CHEAP and DURABLE are two qualities that usually do not coexist well together.

Re: Cheap radiators
I used eagle i think (pretty much champion) for about $150 in my 71 pontiac a-body. The tanks being so square meant i had to trim the rubber mounting pieces to fold and hold them nicer. I scuffed the tanks, etching primered them, and then painted gloss black. It cools my 450HP 462 no problem. Even if it is 115 outside, and i'm idling through a paved fairgrounds for an hour after driving three hours, car never got over 200-205, and that's before i dialed in timing, plus it still idles lean.
Most are dual core, make sure that it's two 1" rows, not two 3/4" rows or a 1" row and a 1/2" row or something, and they will flow great.

Re: Cheap radiators
Why not just be out a little extra and get one from autozone? At least if something is wrong you can deal with a local retailer.

Re: Cheap radiators
I got mine from a place in Oklahoma City, and it was an exact reproduction, and it fits perfectly, and works perfectly. Somebody wants to know who it is but I got it from, I'd be happy to look it up. Let me know.

Re: Cheap radiators
FWIW, I bought a big generic one from speedway motors; it was $126. Not an exact replacement (side tanks, etc), but very easily retrofitted. Very nice welding, thick inlet & outlet, and all brazed construction with no epoxy. I hate to say it, but (so far, anyway) I'd actually rather have this one than a Griffin radiator like I have in other trucks.
