You are 100% correct - a wire pulled out of mine on the passenger side and I just tried to locate one and all I could find was for 1967 and up.
It may work but I would hate to buy yet another part that isn't right - that I have to mess with, I might as well just repair the one I have!  Too bad we are not in love with Ford Mustangs or VW Beetles!
