1972 c20 kickdown / detent cable help!!
Hi all,
I've been having trouble since I bought my truck getting it to kick down into gear when I mash on it. I'm new to these trucks and the th350 transmission, but I'm sure they are supposed to kick down into gear like any other vehicle. I tried adjusting the cable as per instructions online and no dice. I then went and bought another cable from AutoZone. The geniuses gave me the wrong cable and the base of the cable wouldn't fit into the hole on the trans, so I had to put the original cable back. The little pin inside the trans that hooks to the detent cable is there and intact, until I realized the cable they gave me was wrong I actually had the new cable all hooked up like the original one. What could be causing it not to kick down? When I mash on it, it just accelerates from whatever gear it's currently in. Please help!! |

Can you post pics of the cable attachments to the carb so we can see how that's all hooked up?

Re: 1972 c20 kickdown / detent cable help!!
That looks solid - one suggestion to try would be placing a bolt/nut through the slot in the detente cable to take up "slack" and initiate the kickdown sooner. I had to do this for the cable in my K5 - may be a sorta half-@$$ solution but it worked for me. Could the cable be broken?
