AD running boards attached trim???

I've got these holes in my running boards that look like they were for some type of trim but I have never seen a truck fitted with any.
Anybody have any ideas as to what this is?

My guess would be marker lights or side pipes. Back in the 70s and 80s both where popular.

never have seen anything from the factory. That is not to say someone did not add something
