Anyone used a flip kit on a 71-72 with leafs?
Has anyone ever installed a rear flip kit on a 71 or 72 with rear leaf springs? I noticed that DJM makes a 5" drop axle flip kit for my 72 with rear leafs. I have looked under my truck more than a few times and it looks like there is not enough room for a flip kit. It appears to me that if I were to flip it that the axle would be about 1" away from hitting the frame. In other words I would only have about 1" of suspension travel. Not kewl! I think I will also contact either DJM or someone who sells their merchandise as well. Oh by the way my 72 is a LWB if that makes a difference.

That's the flip kit I plan on using soon. I'm going to put in a c-notch and the DJM drop shackles. I'll let you know what kind of clearance I end up with.

Here is a thought. If after installing the flip kit and you don't have enough clearance, you could relocate your spring mounts (move them down on the frame, thus slightly raising the rear of the truck). I used this method to lower my '67 GMC when I used to have leaf springs. I didn't have a flip kit, but raised the front spring mounts about 1.5" to 2", and then lengthened my rear spring shackles the same amount. That along with removing a couple of the leaves gave me decent drop and best of all, it was free!
