Carb tuning
It's 100+ degrees in Vegas right now. Carb pushed out 65 mpg no problem, heat came and I can't get over 50. Do I run it more rich or lean? 230 I6

65 miles per gallon or miles per hour? I am thinking you mean MPH. With the fuel we have heat means vapor lock and boiling gas in a carb. I would look at first be for re jetting.

Well..for a start..check your plugs and see what color they are..also you may consider making a home made cold air intake system..I guarantee it will help...see...your single barrel carb is drawing in..uh...180 degree+ air..which will cause a leaner mixture and fuel over boil...to fix that cold air must go through the carb to dampen..or richen the mixture...this can be achieved by a cold air intake system which is as simple as purchasing a snorkel style air filter and using large diameter PVC pipe and routing the pipe to the front of the truck so it gets a direct air flow to the carb...I'd do a cold air intake. 100 degree temps plus a 180 plus degree engine..the air going through the carb is perrty warm. Edit. KroAutoMotive did this setup on his I6...check his build out.

The mixture screw on the front of the carb is only for idle mixture.
The hotter air means the mixture is somewhat richer (the opposite of something like nitrous), but I really doubt that's your problem. I'd do a general check up and tune up, and if that doesn't work I'd look at the carb itself (rebuild). |

Before you play with the carb are you positive the points dwell and timing is good? Bad points can retard timing causing just about what you are describing.
