Driveshaft thoughts

I'm curious about can a guy run a single piece drive shaft with an automatic transmission at the stock height or does a person have to go to a drop loop crossmember to be able to run a single piece? I'm thinking about running the 2-peice and just having the front shaft shortened and have the slide yoke installed, I'm worried about wheel travel up and down letting a single piece get into the top and bottom of the loop.

Re: Driveshaft thoughts

OH Sorry LOL, It's a 67 chevy SWB, I'm going with the 383/700r4 combo. I'm wanting to leave all cross members original even if it means going with a 2-peice shaft. I'm not building a drag strip truck so I don't think a 2peice is going to hurt anything.

Shouldn't be a problem with that setup. I had a one piece in my '67 with a 454 & TH400 with the stock cross members in place...

Re: Driveshaft thoughts

Thanks Doc I've been worrying about this for awhile. I may lower my truck one of these days but I'm just wanting to get it fixed up and drive it for awhile. Like I said I'm not building a drag truck but I might want to make her talk once in awhile.

Re: Driveshaft thoughts

Some short beds come stock with a one piece shaft. My 67 has (had) a 250 with a 4 speed and a one piece shaft. I bet you can find one on here someones selling. Just have a driveline shop put the yoke you need on it

Re: Driveshaft thoughts

I'm running one-piece driveshaft and I have a t56 and 6.0 LS motor. Had driveshaft shortened by 1/8" and balanced. I'm also bagged to lay frame
