Advice on late model 8-lug wheels
I'm looking into getting some 2004 2500HD take-off aluminum wheels. It was brought to my attention that due to the metric lug nuts and the way the center caps attach, I would need to swap all of my lugs to metric if I want to use the center caps. I know some have used these wheels and I was wondering if there was a way to use the center caps without replacing the studs or possibly an aftermarket standard thread lug nut that will work to fasten the center caps? Thanks.

I have looked into the same thing. I found out there is an aftermarket company that makes a lug nut that is standard thread on the inside that has the metric thread on the outside to hold the center cap so you don't have to change your wheel studs. I don't remember the name but I will try to find out again.
Now all I have to do is find a set of those wheels that won't break the bank.

I did it on my 71 sub. After searching the internet forever, I just went down to a local wheel/trailer supply place and asked them for a conversion lug nut that was metric on the outside and standard on the inside and they had exactly what I needed. I think I paid a $1 a piece for them.
I heard that you could also get them at stockton wheel online. |

Yep..you can get the coversion lug nuts...I bought some at a truck accessory place less than a mile from my house after searching for days...get out the yellow pages. To put those wheels on out trucks, you have to space out the rear center cap.

Thanks for the info. Just to know the lug nut exists is good enough for me. Didn't realize I'd have to space out the rear cap? Due to the full floater I'm assuming? What did you use to space it and how does it look?? Thanks all!

I just got off the phone with the freind of mine who had told me about the lug nuts. He could not remember the name of the company that made the lug nuts but he thought he could get them through Discount Tire. I don't know if you have one close to you. My freind is going to look for the info when he gets home tonight he thoght he had some litrature on it.

I got my lugs from stockton wheels
http://www.stocktonwheel.com/ I got mine just so I could use the new style centecaps. Love it. Price is about the same as any aftermarket lug nut.

It is true you have to space out the rear cap with the full floater rear. On my sub, I had enough wheel stud to put on the original plain lug nuts and then thread on the conversion nuts on top. The cap then clears the hub. There is about a 3/4" gap between the wheel and the cap, but you can't really see it until you get up close.

Wheelcomponents.com has them on line. You will need the 9/16" one with the outside thread. Part number 2010. The rear caps will not work though, you will have to by the rears for a 1 ton. That is what I did anyway. Here is a link: http://www.wheelcomponents.com/tlugs.html

Ive got some of them newer model center caps on my 85 ive been searchin all over for them Thanks for the link!!!!
So on the rear the cap hits the axle huh.. the way my caps are on now"like this when i got the truck" it has the factory lug nut holding the wheel on and then the metrics are stuck onto the stud kinda rigged it has dually caps on it when i got it but now ive got Some HD caps and i want them to look right .. |

So the one ton caps are different from the 3/4 ton center cap? And the 1 ton center cap will fit over the rear axle on our 3/4 ton rear end? Is that right?

Only thing about this place is its gonna cost 60 bucks to get 32 of them shipped they charge 15 dollar shippin regardless anyone know of a cheaper route than http://www.wheelcomponents.com/tlugs.html
