help finding fan bolts
I have come up empty trying to find the fan to water pump bolts I need for my engine swap. I had to cut off two of the originals I only have one left because one was missing.
The studs are about 1 13/16" long fit a short water pump and a clutch fan. I tried twice using carb studs but they screw in further into the water pump even after I tried to back them up with a nut because the are threaded further than the originals. I tried to find bolts today to run from the water pump side but there are none available that are 2'' long that are threaded all the way in fine threads. I plan on doing a more internet search this evening but I sure would appreciate any help. Thanks |

I just bought some at napa in their bolt bins. they had metric and sae..

A local pick a part will have them.

What size bolts are they? Any shoulder?

I believe they are 5/16" x1 13/16" studs with fine thread on one end and course on other. the fine end should only be threaded about 3/8"
the carb studs I tried to use were threaded over half way and screw in towards the water pump before the outside course thread holding the fan on gets tight |

It looks like you'll have to order them.
You could always try bringing them down to one of the parts stores. It's worked for me before. Sometimes they'll have something that will work, but is listed for a different application.

The parts guys at my local ABC parts store are even as good as a "real" parts guy who is drunk. they're like talking to my wife when it comes to parts.
Part of my prob is I don't even know if this is a factory '68 bracket and pulley set up. the engine I pulled out was a 283. |

First I like to thank everybody who responded.
Now for that first bite of crow.... I tried to use the nuts that came with the carb studs like they were for a fan/water pump stud. in other words they were for fine instead of coarse thread. they would partially screw on then while trying to tighten would push the stud out. any way sorry about the false alarm and thanks again for the help. |
