What kind of auto trans cooler needed

I'm in process of putting a new auto trans ( either a TH350 or 700r4 ) in my '65 chevy and I have a question. Will the cooler in a radiator be enough or, should I forget about that and use a dedicated auto trans cooler?

Thanks in advance for any help

The one in the radiator is enough but with a trans cooler is always better.

Re: What kind of auto trans cooler needed

I just finished putting a 700r4 behind my inline and have around 500 trouble free miles with this cooler: Hayden trans cooler plate 679

Side note, the corvette servo upgrade was the simple and best mod to date.

Re: What kind of auto trans cooler needed

I have a 700R4 (and would never use anything else now) that was in my 4x4 and now is in my 65. It has been run only on the radiator cooler. It has a reprograming kit and heavy duty torque converter for towing. I used to haul heavy loads in the 4x4. If I were to guess I would say there is about 12000 miles on the trans. Now it is behind my BB.
