1961 door rubber

Has anyone had a problem with getting their door to close tight and lock completely. I've tried both new rubber and the 2007 honda door rubber and i still cant get it to shut tight. Has anyone tried bending the lip on the frame in order to allow for complete latching.

Re: 1961 door rubber

I would try to re adjust the door first. Also replacing the hinge shims would,t hurt.

Re: 1961 door rubber

Most of us just adjust the doors out and leave them there for some period of time. After the gaskets settle in and conform, you can tighten the latches back up for a better fit. Installing them in the heat of the summer helps too.

I kept a small portion of my original door gaskets to match up and find the perfect replacement seals. So far I have found nothing in the aftermarket that comes close to the original profile.

Re: 1961 door rubber

The door will adjust a few ways without a shim. The six bolts on the door and on the hinge and the wedge. Did you adjust the wedge located under the door latch? It will adjust back and forth to give you a tight door. Once you put the new gaskets on close the door and adjust the wedge. When I put new gaskets on I had to move the wedge back so the door will close. Here is a pic of the wedge. I hope this will fix your problem.
